Assistive and adaptive technologies are used to help assist people with disabilities in order to work around their limitations. Hearing aids, AAC's, and wheelchairs are common examples of these technologies. I know a few people who need a hearing aid in order to listen to others. Some challenges that teachers face is trying to accommodate their situation with the rest of the class. This might mean rearranging the classroom to have these learners sit in the front if they have trouble hearing.
I think these principles of universal design are important to help make this concept useful because of previous experiences. In order to become an expert learner, you have to be flexible. This means that you can't set your mind on one thing and when that goes wrong then you don't have a plan B. You can minimize your errors by taking your time on your work and checking over what you do before you execute it. These principles allow you to be persistent and increase effort in your learning.
One academic software I will implement is Microsoft Powerpoint. This is a great way to create a presentation for the class so that they can see it on the screen while listening to a lecture at the same time. It is also a good tool for the students to use during group assignments. Another software that is good is google drive. You can use google drive to store all of your documents and powerpoints on it and it can be accessible to others. You can share your drive with the class so that they will have access to it.
This is my first time creating a blog but it has been really fun to interact with others and share my thoughts. I think it is a good way to hear what other people think while sharing your own thoughts. I don't think there are any downsides to blogging because it can only benefit us by sharing information with one another and gaining knowledge we did not have before. I have learned how to operate a blog by using different tools and tactics in each blog!

Hey Olivia!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I think Assistive and adaptive technologies are a wonderful thing. I am so glad they were invented and continue to improve. I love how you said you would implement Microsoft word. I think that is very smart because it is easy to use and after thus class, you are extremely familiar with it.
Olivia,
ReplyDeleteGreat Post! I also discussed google drive as a software tool for classrooms. I think it is very beneficial in that it can keep students organized and it can help prepare them for school in the future! Also, Microsoft PowerPoint is something that almost everyone has to learn to use at one point in their life and I think it could be very helpful to learn it at a young age.
Love your post! MS PowerPoint is certainly an excellent software to implement in the classroom, both for the teacher and the students. Google Drive is also a great too. I had several teachers who would have their students upload documents to their student Google Drive and share it with them, especially for group work. I imagine it was quite helpful for teachers and students alike.
ReplyDeleteHi Olivia! I really enjoyed reading your post. You have a lot of good insight about things. I also think that powerpoint is a great idea to make sure that it is in your classroom! It is good for both students and the teacher to use!
ReplyDeleteOlivia,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog post. I have always thought of accommodating as being a very intricate plan, but you made me realize that it can be as simple as moving a student to the front of the classroom. I also liked your statement on having a plan b. I love PowerPoint and have been learning the great tools that it has to offer recently. I am glad you've had a good time blogging!
Hey Olivia!
ReplyDeleteI loved how insightful your post was. I too believe that accommodation can be very simple I just hate the thought of how other students within the classroom may treat that student due to their accommodation. As a teacher there is only really so much you can do. Can't wait to read more of your posts!
