I found a class page for a 4th-grade class at Viking Elementary School. On the page, it shows the class curriculum, social studies announcements, science announcements, and resources. She uses this class page as a resource for students and parents to view so that they can keep up with what is going on in the classroom. It is useful because the parents are able to see the homework the students have and gives them an opportunity to be involved in their lives.

The Digital Divide affects a lot of students in school for many reasons. The economic gap between students is huge because you have kids coming from low-income areas and high-income areas so their access to technology is vastly different. Kids who have access to technology at home are going to be more advanced with it than those who do not so it is hard for teachers to use technology in the classroom with kids at a young age because some really struggle with it. As a teacher, you have to be prepared for students who don't have access to technology outside of the classroom and make arrangements for that if you require them to use it for other reasons.
Twitter has been useful in this course for me because it has been an outlet that I can ask any questions that I have and get a quick response back whether it is from my peers or instructor. I think I have interacted with a few classmates so far and have been able to help others out by responding to their questions as well. I haven't experienced any issues with twitter so far because I have been familiar with the app for a while now. It is a great way to interact with others and share your thoughts which can be useful with your future career. I think twitter is a good way to see how you are as a person if your future job is looking at it and it is a great way to communicate.

Hey! I really liked reading your blog. I checked out the link that you posted and I really liked the page that was posted. It was really cute and a good find. I agree with you about what you said about twitter! I think it has the potential to be a good way to communicate with others briefly and less formally than an email. It also could be a fun activity to begin with your students (just like we did with this class!) Great post!!
ReplyDeleteHi Olivia! I agree that the digital divide can stem from different socioeconomic status and it's important as a future educator to recognize this in order to problem-solve ways to best help support these students. I think that working with students one-on-one that may not have access to technology at home can best help support this issue. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your blog Olivia! Twitter has also been extremely helpful for me in asking our instructor for assistance or clarification on certain aspects of the class. I always enjoy reading your posts!
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteI found that teacher's use their class page to make important announcements to their students as well. I would also like to know how you would go about making arrangements for students without access to technology. I think tat there are many great ways to do this. Lastly, I am glad that Twitter has been really helpful for you!
