On the ELA technology standards, I chose a 3rd-grade standard that describes students being able to use text features and search tools to locate information relevant to the topic. For example, if you are using an online textbook, you can use search tools to find specific pages in the textbook. I have used this feature my whole life by using online glossaries or indexes to find information. I think I could definitely teach this to a class of third-graders because I feel like I am technologically advanced enough to show them this feature.
I chose the Mathematics Formative Assessment System (MFAS) because I think it is important for teachers to implement students showing their work with their math problems. It helps the teachers interpret the students' responses and allows students to be able to justify the way they got their answer. I would use this in my classroom because math is different than other subjects because the answer can be found in different ways. Every person learns differently and has their own strategy when it comes to certain problems so it is an effective strategy to implement.
Prezi is an awesome Web 2.0 tool that can be used in the classroom. It is an easy way to present your information as a PowerPoint. You can include pictures, diagrams, and charts in the Prezi and make it appealing at the same time. As a teacher, it is always nice to have a PowerPoint ready for class to go through the information quickly and efficiently without having to write everything out.

I really enjoyed reading your blog! You made a lot of good points and I also used prezi in high school. I am taking a class now at FSU and the professor uses prezi. That is really cool math lesson that you picked out, what grade was it for? Really enjoyed reading this!
ReplyDeleteLoved your blog! It's very important to interpret how a student's mind works and I love that you highlighted on that. You're very open minded to different learning strategies and I think that is an essential quality to have as an educator. Great read :)
ReplyDeleteOlivia, I really enjoyed reading your post! I think the most difficult part regarding the ELA standard that you chose would be teaching young children to appropriately use search tools. I feel as though 3rd graders might have trouble staying focused and using search tools, such as Google, unsupervised. I also love that you discussed Prezi! I am very familiar with the tool and find that it can be very useful in any classroom!
